An ardent admirer of the art of sangat (accompaniment), Anand Gopal
Bandopadhyay had his initial training from his father Pundit Mahadeo Prasad
Misra (Banaras gharana) who formally trained him into an accomplished tabla
player. At the tender age of 18 he won the first prize in tabla in the All India
Radio Music Competition. At present, he is the top grade artist of A. I. R.
Traversing a brilliant career, Ananda is successful both as a soloist as
well as an accompanist. His sense of understanding has endeared him to musicians
and music lovers. A highly popular tabla player, he has toured United States,
U.K., Canada, South America, Italy, germany, Holland, Berlin, Dubai, SriLanka,
Thailand, Bangladesh etc. He participated and performed in the programs and
workshops organized for the Festival of India at Maryland, Boston, New York and
San Francisco. He also performed 'JUGALBANDI' (Duet) concerts organized by the
Bharatiya Bidya Bhavan of NewYork, USA and Canada. Apart from these
performances, he was associated with, many prestigious organizations song and
Drama Division Delhi, Faculty of Music & Cine Arts, University of Delhi, Amir
Khusroo Society of Chicago. At present, he is a senior member of the Faculty of
Sangeet Research Academy, Calcutta. As sought after tabla accompanist, he is
successful in both live and recording performances. As a result, he has numerous
cassettes, albums and CDs of many Classical music to his credit. He has toured
USA a record twelve times with ITC-SRA musicians. |
